I may have forgotten about this completely, so don't go quoting me on this, but that is my experience. I popped in the stick, ran the tool to make it work with the 360 and it asked me if I wanted to set it up for use with the 360, but I really don't remember it asking me anything about how much space. And for the record, I may just have lousy memory, but I honestly don't remember the console asking me how much space I wanted to devote to the 360 usage. If that were the case, formatting the partition would only remove data on that specific partition and leave any other partitions in tact. The fact that it would remove everything on the stick directly correlates to the fact that there isn't a fancy partition scheme being used.

If you were formatting the flash drive in the PC it shouldn't effect other files than the 360 files *if* it really were a separate partition.
I believe it works in reverse too, if you format it on 360 you'll loose your normal PC data. Just remember that if your format your flash drive on your PC, it will format the whole thing and you'll lose your 360 data. I just popped my 360 memory stick in my computer for validation and I can see that it is clearly still a FAT32 partition scheme (which it was to begin with). Format USB flash drive via Xbox 360 controller. Setting up your USB flash stick for use with the 360 does *not* give it any fancy partition type it merely *encodes* the Xbox 360 data in a manner that only the Xbox can read and work with. I think some people are using the term "partition" a bit too liberally here.
